Abstract

This project aims at studying the legal statutes of the late Roman Republic (2nd and 1st centuries). More specifically, the research will focus on the structure of the verbal nucleus and its predication. The mapping of the verbal nucleus and of the predication it controls shall be pursued according to both syntactic and semantic categories, according to the hypothesis that the multiple formal structures are associated with a complex semantic network that reveal legal statutes as complex texts, containing propositions of different illocutionary force.
