Abstract

Bipolar Disorder (BD) is characterized by mood swings, cognitive and behavior. To learn how to read is a complex process which demands that students use components such as phonological, syntax and semantic of language, and as a consequence using the metalinguistic ability of reflection of the verbal language on the written language. Objective: Evaluate cognitive process of read and write in children with BD, compared with healthy controls. Assessing this ability allows the understanding of children development, beyond checking some difficult that could affect the reading process, influencing all of the general learning procedure. Methods: Thirty children will be select by the necessary criteria: age group will be aged between six (6) and twelve (12) years old and diagnosed BD; and thirty children without any psychiatric diagnoses. All of the participants must be literate and IQ>70, and their cognitive process of read will be assess by the protocols: Prohmele (Abilities of Metalinguistic and Reading tests); Assessment Protocol of Cognitive-Linguistic abilities and Assessment Protocol of Reading Comprehension. Hypothesis: Children with BD, compared to healthy controls will present: worse performance in metalinguistics abilities and reading according to Prohmele; worse performance in cognitive-linguistics abilities according Assessment Protocol of Cognitive-Linguistics abilities and poor performance in reading comprehension using the Protocol of Reading Comprehension.
