Abstract

Soil type and vegetation cover influence the composition of the soil microbiota and modulate its activity, which is closely related to the cycling of nutrients that are used by plants. Likewise, the enzymatic activity of the soil is influenced by the physiological activity of the roots, which releases compounds that regulate the growth and activity of soil microorganisms. The relationships between plants, their symbionts and soil microbiota are essential for maintaining the productivity and sustainability of crops, such as planted forests. The objective of this project is to study the microbial and fungal mycorrhizal activities of a soil collected from areas under different uses: planting of eucalypt and secondary vegetation and its interrelation with the development and nutrition of two eucalyptus species: Eucalyptus grandis and E. globulus. The project intends to evaluate the relationship between enzymatic activities related to the cycling of nitrogen (N), carbon (C) and sulfur (S) from recently collected soils and after the growth of the two eucalyptus species for a period of six months. For this, a microcosm experiment will be carried out in a 2 x 3 factorial scheme, 2 types of soil: EUC, from eucalyptus forest, CAP - capoeira vegetation, and 3 plant treatments: E. grandis cultivation, cultivation of E. globulus and without plant growth, with 5 replications for each treatment. The protease, urease, cellulase, B-glucosidase and arylsulfatase activities will be determined, as well as the C and N of biomass and soil microbial respiration, both at the time of soil collection and after 6 months of the microcosm experiment. These results will be related to the ability of soils to support plant growth and the accumulation of nutrients in plants. In this way, the project brings a transdisciplinary approach between soil microbiology and plant nutrition and contributes to the understanding of the interrelationship between microbial activity and nutrient availability in the soil-plant system.
