Abstract

This research project has as its principle a panoramic study of what we will consider here as models of creative strategies in Collective Free Improvisation. Our hypothesis is that creative strategies are emergent elements shared between improvisers in performances, and are cognitive processes - judgments - that help them to solve problems of coordination (change and maintenance of the sound environment) and creation of consistency. The problem to be investigated is how the creation of these creative strategies happens when analyzed as shared mental models, from Canonne and Aucoutourier's (2015) understanding. That is, how groups, as they begin a trajectory of CFI practices, create diverse creative strategies for solving the consolidation problems emerging in practice. From the finding of these strategies, we will seek to use them as independent variables in order to understand what are the possible influences of these strategies on trajectories of CFI groups. The methodology used to test this hypothesis consists of: 1) an ethnographic investigation with existing CFI groups, and 2) empirical experiments to verify the generation of strategies and apply them later as independent variables. Finally, we will analyze the results obtained by means of the Verbal Protocol Analysis (VPA), in order to have a qualitative approach in the analysis of the improvisers' perceptions about their strategies, as well as statistical methods in the search for correlations between the verbal reports and the improvisers' behaviors in the performances.
