Abstract

This project aimed to develop and choose the best predictive models for AL, K and ACD in order to create a Pediatric Intraocular Lens Calculator, Methods: A single sample will be created using eyes with congenital and developmental cataract undergoing surgery with primary intraocular lens implant, at the HC of the Botucatu Medical School and at the School of Medicine of South Carolina University; these eyes have to present measures of AL, K and preoperative ACD and at least one more postoperative measure with a minimum interval of six months after surgery. Based on these data, Logarithmic Regression models and Multivariate Models for AL, K and ACD will be created to estimate future values of AL, K and ACD from preoperative averages. The models will be applied in the sample and the estimated variable values will be compared to the ones observed in the last visit in order to determine the predictive model error. The best models for AL, K and ACD will be those with the smallest error. The chosen models will be used to create a Pediatric Intraocular Lens Calculator, using AL, K and ACD values estimated by the models and a modified Fiodorov Formula to estimate an IOL for emmetropia at a future age. A platform for the input of new patients and new measures for registered patients will be created to update the models and IOL calculations using the new input data. This platform will be available for qualified users and the Pediatric Intraocular Lens Calculator will be available for free online access. (AU)
