Abstract

Environmental change, and especially climate change brings many changes both in magnitude and intensity to the planet. Extreme climatic and meteorological events are a consequence of such changes and have implications for society, especially in the most vulnerable groups, such as women. Education is one of the only, if not the only, path to the inclusion of minorities. Thus, this research aims to understand how women educators work, based on their perceptions, knowledge and pedagogical strategies used in the context of extreme climatic and meteorological events in the municipalities of Atibaia and Caraguatatuba, State of São Paulo. The present research is of an applied nature, with a qualitative and quantitative approach and consists of four methodological procedures: bibliographic, documentary research, field research and case study. This study foresees the fulfilment of semi-structure interviews and questionnaire about perception, knowledge and adaptive capacity to climate change. The 65 female educators selected for the research have been working in schools in areas at risk of floods and intense rains for at least 10 years. Therefore, the research hypothesis is that the involvement of women educators in the environmental education process is an important component because it goes beyond just transmitting technical knowledge, it also brings the experience of life, work and experiences in extreme climatic and meteorological events.
