Abstract

The automotive sector is undergoing substantial innovation due to electric mobility deployment. Despite recent advances in this area, there are still numerous technological, market, resource and organizational uncertainties related to electric mobility. Therefore, the automotive sector has become highly relevant to uncertainty management research. In this environment, the product development process reference models, which guided solutions' development in automakers and auto parts suppliers for years, need to be revisited. A development process of electric mobility solutions that explores the potential of current innovation approaches, considers the management of uncertainties and aims for productivity gains is not yet available in the literature. This project aims to define a reference model for the development process of electric mobility solutions based on uncertainty management. This project is linked to the Thematic Project "Uncertainty management in innovation activities" and will be carried out in a research center directed to innovation for electric mobility. The study focuses on commercial vehicles, which currently involve a higher level of uncertainty. In methodological terms, the research follows the Design Science Research (DSR) approach with the application of case studies to collect empirical data to support the reference model proposition. Additional results include mapping alternative technological routes for the electrification of commercial vehicles and identifying uncertainty management methods applied in electric mobility projects. The project results have scientific implications and offer subsidies for the definition of public policies in electric mobility and for the practice in companies in the automotive sector. (AU)
