Abstract

Breast cancer is cancer with the second-highest mortality rate and is also the malignant neoplasm that most affects women. Because of its malignancy, this disease can have an elevated metastatic potential, frequently affecting bones, in particular the spine. This metastatic compromise of the spine can lead to many symptoms, which can be reversed or eased by different treatment methods, such as surgery. The surgical approach is an effective but non-curative method, that targets pain control, preserving neurological functions, and improving the patient's quality of life. In this study, we will evaluate the characteristics of patients that underwent spinal surgery directed at breast cancer metastasis, their clinical evolution, complications, and prognosis.(AU)
