Abstract

The rise of land grabbing in Brazilian territory represents a difficulty for the establishment of sovereignty. The phenomenon, characterized by the purchase and lease of large tracts of land and the production of flexible crops (flex crops) on a large scale, involving large companies, representatives of international speculative capital and governments, presents itself as a contemporary challenge to face inequalities in the field, a fundamental mark of rural dynamics in Brazil. The growth in demand for agricultural commodities associated with the globalized market drove this practice in the search for new areas for globalized agribusiness, with an expressive growth after the 2008 financial crisis. Brazilian land grabbing, making it necessary to understand its practices and the local social implications, marked by the increase in conflicts in the countryside and the growth of inequality. Its performance in the MATOPIBA planning region requires an understanding of how the incentive policies promoted by the government in various instances help in the performance of this company in association with international financial capital. Based on this research, the aim is to identify and analyze the land grabbing practices of the company Radar Properties Agrícolas S/A in the MATOPIBA planning region and its local (municipal) social implications.
