Abstract

Most of the exchanges of energy, gases and particles between the atmosphere and the elements of the Earth's surface happen in the first hundreds of meters above ground. These exchanges are driven by the highly turbulent flow in this part of the atmosphere, which is known as the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). In this study, a Large-Eddy Simulation code will be used to represent the ABL. Statistics such as the vertical profiles of mean and standard deviation of velocity, temperature, turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat will be simulated and studied. These physical parameters govern the turbulent transport and consequently the exchanges between the surface and the atmosphere, being relevant in many environmental and meteorological processes.
