Abstract

This proposal is at the frontier of knowledge of the important research field on the control of the fundamental properties of an optical beam, including the so-called "light sheets", in homogeneous and inhomogeneous media. More specifically, it is a proposal of theoretical and experimental research for management, on demand, of diffraction, polarization, intensity, phase, and orbital angular momentum of an optical beam along straight as well as two- and three-dimensional curved trajectories, in homogeneous and inhomogeneous media, either over long distances along the propagation direction or within micrometer spatial regions. In this context of controlling the fundamental physical properties of the optical field, researches on structured "light sheets" will also be carried out.From the results obtained, possible applications in optical manipulation, remote sensing, optical communications and photonics will be studied and evaluated. The work will be developed over a year with the optics and photonics group of Prof. Mo Mojahedi at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, Canada. (AU)
