Abstract

Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) are an alternative to common solvents such as organic and ionic liquids, since they are cheaper and greener than both. DES are formed by a hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and a hydrogen bond donor (HBD), whose mixture presents a lower melting point than its counterparts. The possibility to choose those species confer a widely liquid range for these materials, that can have different properties. In order to obtain a DES with desirable properties, as low melting point and low viscosity, it is crucial to understand how the various intermolecular interactions, especially the hydrogen bonds, define such properties. In the original project, we evaluated the vibrational characterization of the DES formed bydifferent tetrabutylammonium halides as HBA and glycerol as HBD, in different molar ratios(HBA:HBD 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4). In this work, our goal is to study the physical and thermodynamic properties to correlate them with the spectroscopic evidence of the intermolecularinteractions. (AU)
