Abstract

The objective of the project is to analyze the influence of the gas-surface interaction on the drag force acting on a solid sphere in a rarefied gas with an arbitrary Mach number. The calculation of the drag force will be based on the Boltzmann equation and, due to the complexity of this equation, only the free molecular regime of the gas flow will be considered. As a boundary condition, first, the diffuse-specular scattering kernel proposed by Maxwell will be used. Subsequently, the scattering kernel proposed by Cercignani and Lampis will be implemented to verify the influence of the accommodation coefficients of tangential momentum and energy in the solution of the problem.(AU)
