Abstract

This scientific initiation aims to investigate methodological and analytical challenges and possibilities in the construction of quantitative studies that seek to evaluate the relationship between the index of walkability (estimates of quality of life in urban areas, infrastructure, mobility, accessibility and experience the city) and criminal rates (in the specific natures of homicides, robberies and thefts), for the city of São Paulo and in a spatial-temporal perspective, with children aged 10-14 years and adolescents aged 15-19 years as a focus group. To do so, it will start with the geocoding of police reports of different criminal typologies in the attempt to find influences on walkability in different intra-urban territorial units- such as census sectors, weighting areas, Human Development Units (UDH), urban patterns etc. This investigation will make it possible to evaluate the adequacy of police records (proxy of violence) as adequate measurements to evidence correlations between criminal and child walkability variables, in the context of São Paulo city.(AU)
