Artificial intelligence in Dentistry: what do dentists and computer scientists know about it?

Abstract

This study will aim to evaluate the knowledge of dental professionals and computer professionals about the application of artificial intelligence in dentistry, specifically in oral radiology. In addition, the present study aims to verify whether artificial intelligence can impact the choice of oral radiology as a specialty. 746 professionals from the fields of dentistry and computer science will participate in the study, who will answer a multiple-choice questionnaire with questions regarding general knowledge about artificial intelligence and applied in Dental Radiology. The disclosure and invitation to participate in the research will be carried out on the social networks of the researchers and their Institutions (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Institutional Sites, and WhatsApp), and the questionnaire will be made available through a link to access the Google Forms platform (Alphabet Co. ., Mountain View, California, USA). Data will be analyzed using simple and multiple regression models. In all analyses, a significance level of 5% will be considered. With this study, it is expected to verify the knowledge of professionals in the areas of dentistry and computer about the use of artificial intelligence specifically in Dental Radiology; the perspective of the joint work of these professionals for the implementation of artificial intelligence in the clinical and academic routine and the impact of artificial intelligence in the choice of Dental Radiology as a specialty.(AU)
