Abstract

The present research project aims to investigate the production of Lucy Citti Ferreira (1911-2008) and Yolanda Mohalyi (1909-1978). Both artists produced beside Lasar Segall between the 1930s and 1940s. Given their proximity to the Lithuanian painter, part of their work was understood by critics as a by product. Notwithstanding their academic backgrounds and their various stints in European training centers, Lucy and Yolanda were perceived by critics as students of Segall and, thereby, not fully autonomous. It is assumed that, since both artists were closely associated with him, their productions could not be understood in their singularity. In this regard, this project aims to give visibility to these artists through the study of their production, erased by the Brazilian canon. (AU)
