Abstract

Rail transport until the early twentieth century played an important role as trailblazer and inducing economic development of the country and the urbanization process of the cities where the tracks passed. Specifically, in the Sorocaba region, the railroad implantation gave rise to urban centers from its stations. Along with the other buildings built to support the operation of the rail network, these cores configured a significant cultural landscape, recording a time. This research aims to carry out a comparative study between two cities that arose from the expansion of Sorocabana Railway (EFA) to the West Paulista which have common characteristics in its urban training process. The objective is to investigate the origin of the urban centers of the municipalities and hold its morphological analysis. First, there will be a literature review on the topic of urban morphology and the history of Brazilian cities. In the sequel, it should be investigated history of the municipalities under study, through the available literature in order to investigate the origin of the urban sites and the role of the colonizers. Another step consists in raising the documentation by means of field work, and finally, analysis of the urban cores, identifying its relationship with the station and the terrace, with the geography of the site and the form of their morphological elements.
