Abstract

The project aims at better understanding the recent neutron stars (NSs) observations with refined models for dense matter. Since the symmetry energy plays a crucial role in the description of NS matter (beta equilibrium in very neutron rich matter), we will study the role of the short range correlations (SRC) on the symmetry energy first, and then on the observations of NSs. Moreover, the composition of the central core of massive NSs is still unknown. It however plays a very important role in the compactness of the stellar object. We will therefore explore several scenarios for phase transitions, such as delta resonances, hyperons, pion and kaon condensate, as well as the quarkyonic model applied to NS matter. Finally, the possibility that part of the NS gravitational mass exists as dark matter will also be investigated. At the end of this project, an extensive analysis of the consequences of all dense matter properties explored will be performed for various observational data, such as the tidal deformability in NS mergers, the cooling of NSs, and the NSs giant glitches.
