Abstract

With this research I aim to investigate how Moishe Postone understands that capital, in modern social praxis, emerges as a historical subject and realizes the alienation (Entäußerung) of social agents and their temporality, generating a particular historical and domination dynamics. For that, I will take his work Time, Labor and Social Domination (1993). Initially, I will analyse how the categories of concrete labor, abstract labor, alienation, fetichism and of time appear for both Postone and an indispensable thinker for the understanding of his work, from whom he resumes such mentioned categories: Karl Marx. As labor under capitalism, according to Postone, is a total category of socialization and subjectivation mediated precisely by its most abstract temporal aspects, I have as central object that which Postone indicates to be a dialectics of the categories of concrete time and abstract time in the dynamics of capitalism. To finish, I will analyse how Postone understands that capital operates a particular historical dynamics of "double time": which implies a form of impersonal and temporal historical domination upon the social agents, unique to capitalism. With such research, I seek to evaluate the contributions of his conception of capital, his proposal of a way to read Marx and also the possible limits that such way might present. (AU)
