Abstract

This research project aims to study the relationship between New/Progressive Education movements and the field of Music Education from a transnational perspective. This study on the international circulation of innovative ideas and practices is divided into two parts: (a) the uses of sound recording, reproduction, and broadcasting technologies with the corollary of discussions around their pedagogical uses in the French context of the first half of the twentieth century; (b) the circulation and appropriation of the ideas of the American educator Satis Coleman in different countries. The archival corpus mobilized is composed of primary sources from the New/Progressive Education movements whose selection and analysis will be guided by the lines of investigation presented. (AU)
