Abstract

The present proposal concerns a theoretical and experimental investigation of the velocity and pressure fields for axial single-phase flow and dispersed bubbles flow in a vertical tube bundle, considering a typical geometry of a PWR reactor (Pressure Water Reactor). The experimental study will be conducted in a hydraulic channel available at the Research Group on Heat Transfer at EESC-USP. The technique of Spatial Filters Velocimetry (SFV) will be applied to obtain the velocity fields in a tube bundle for single-phase flow and dispersed air bubbles within water. The triangular array of tubes will be constructed using a material with a coefficient of refraction like that of water, to allow the evaluation of velocity fields in the inner region of the tube bundle. The velocity fields will be post-processed to obtain the intensity of turbulence, shear stresses, and pressure fields. The expected results are the characterization of the flow structure under development considering axial and lateral velocity fields for single-phase and dispersed bubbles flow. It should be highlighted that studies involving the velocity field characterization for single-phase and dispersed bubbles flows under flow development conditions along vertical tube bundles are not available in the open literature, although such a condition is typical of reactors. Fluctuating pressure fields obtained from experimental velocity data are also uncommon in tube bundle flow analysis. From the information gathered and the defined methodology, it is proposed to present the experimental results for the turbulence intensity and shear stresses, including the observed flow patterns and characteristics of turbulence in tube bundles. The pressure fields results will be classified and analyzed focusing on fluid-structure interaction for the triangular configuration. (AU)
