Abstract

The surface current and the bottom current are responsible greatly in reforming the morphology of the sea floor along with redistributing sediments on the sea floor. The continental margin in particular, continental shelves and continental slope record the sedimentary archive of the past events. The ocean current can sometime deposit sediments on the sea floor such as contourite deposits and at the same time it can also erode and make erosive platforms as well. Thus, thorough study of the sedimentary archives of the continental shelves and slope in the Brazilian margin would help in determining the impact of ocean current in that region and in deriving the palaeoceanographic condition as well. Detailed study of reflection seismic data, multibeam bathymetry data, VM-ADCP (Vessel-mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler), and geochemical study of core data will be carried out to i)Identify minor and major morphological features on the Brazilian margin and the processes responsible.ii)Decipher the variability of the Brazilian Current through geological time scale (during Quarternary).
