Abstract

Molecules containing a sulfonyl (-SO2-) functionality are valuable building blocks in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutical industry. Over the last few years, there has been an increasing interest in the development of methods for the synthesis of the sulfonyl moiety by direct incorporation of SO2. This research project aims the preparation of sulfones using an electrochemical three-component reaction involving alkyl carboxylic acids, sulfur dioxide, and tetrahydroisoquinolines/tetrahydro-beta-carbolines.
