Abstract

This project presents a proposal for a Research Internship Abroad (BEPE/FAPESP) to be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Erik Bähre (Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology of Leiden University - CAOS). The main objective of this project is to access emerging perspectives of European economic ethnography and urban ethnography. In my current Masters research about popular loan sharking, I consider that this practice not only as a credit relationship, but as a relationship of moral capital accumulation, in which trust, honor and reputation between loan sharks and their networks given a constant economic as well as moral evaluation. With a view to contributing to an already consolidated tradition of studies on the popular economy, this period as visiting research at the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology of Leiden University - CAOS will provide the consolidation of the research networks already initiated between Dr. Erik Bahre's research group and the and the research projects I participate in. As a main product of this BEPE period, I will produce an article on popular indebtedness with Dr. Erik Bähre and a theoretical-methodological chapter of my dissertation, inductively built from the selection of empirical situations, from which I will extract the interpretative framework and the theoretical-methodological debates, in direct interlocution with the research group and the academic events that I will be able to participate abroad. Furthermore, the internship abroad will enable my participation in the discipline 'comparison and cultures' given by Dr. Erik Bähre in addition to my participation in prestigious international events, such as the RC21 Conference of the ISA and the workshop with the international team of the Thematic Project GLOBALCAR.
