Echocardiographic evaluation of cardiac output in healthy dogs during anesthetic induction with propofol

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the implications on cardiac output provided by the administration of propofol during anesthetic induction in dogs. 10 male and/or female dogs will be selected, of any breed, weighing between 4 and 20 kg and aged between 1 and 5 years. The animals will be induced with the isolated use of propofol dose/effect at the rate of 3 mg/kg/minute, with the echocardiographic evaluations performed immediately before the anesthetic induction (MA), concomitantly (MC) and soon after the interruption (MI) of the delivery of the anesthetic agent. To assess cardiac output, an echocardiographic examination will be used, in which the variable of interest will be measured by Simpson's method. For statistical analysis, the variables will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Tukey test in order to investigate differences between the evaluated moments (p<0.05).(AU)
