Abstract

The association and coexistence of tinnitus and headache, especially migraine, is common, and the pain caused by headaches could influence the discomfort caused by tinnitus and vice versa, predominantly affecting young women, often having other associated conditions that impact the quality of life. Thus, the aim of this study will be to evaluate the prevalence and impact of tinnitus on quality of life in a sample of women diagnosed with episodic migraine with (MA) and without aura (MoA), chronic migraine (CM), and a control group (CG) using the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory questionnaire (THI) in its Brazilian Portuguese version. The sample size calculation was obtained using a standard deviation of 14 points from the THI questionnaire, a significance level of ± = 0.05, and a power of 90%, an n of 88 individuals was obtained, totaling 22 participants in each of the four groups. To carry out the study, the participants must attend the Specialized Center for Otorhinolaryngology and Speech Therapy (CEOF) at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo (HCFMRP-USP) to apply the questionnaire and carry out an audiological assessment using conventional threshold pure tone audiometry, high-frequency pure tone audiometry, and acufenometry to ensure that no patient with tinnitus has hearing loss or deafness, as these are exclusion factors for the study. To analyze the impact of tinnitus on quality of life, the mean and standard deviation of the THI questionnaire score in the four groups (MA, MoA, CM, and CG) will be evaluated. The prevalence of tinnitus will be analyzed through the prevalence ratio (PR). (AU)
