Abstract

The concern with the environment has been growing year by year, being guided by government information and large organizations such as the UN. Given this, the academy has been studying new chemical approaches less aggressive to the environment, but with the concern of maintaining or even exceeding the efficiency of conventional processes. In view of this, the chemistry of natural products has also been contributing to new green approaches, such as the use of hyphenated techniques, experimental planning, and metabolite libraries. In order to contribute to the development of new approaches, this project proposes the development of a green chromatographic method for the analysis of metabolites present in the leaves of Morus nigra, popularly known as "blackberry". The tea from M. nigra leaves is widely consumed in oriental countries and this is one of the species listed in RENISUS due to its important biological/pharmacological activities. Therefore, specifically, the proposal of this project is to develop a low environmental impact method to determine the metabolites present in M. nigra leaves, especially those related to biological/pharmacological activities, by high-performance liquid chromatography, using a green approach with experimental planning and replacement of toxic solvents by green solvents. The developed method will be compared with conventional methods reported in the literature regarding efficiency and environmental impact, using specific metrics such as AGREE (Analytical Greenness metric approach).
