Abstract

This scientific initiation aims to investigate the ways in which adolescents' mental health issues are framed by the Juvenile Justice System of the State of São Paulo. In this sense, qualitative research will be carried out based on a literature review and documental analysis of records from Fundação CASA and institutional records of adolescents in conflict with the law in order to assess how mental health issues, psychiatric diagnoses, use of psychotropic drugs, psychiatric expertise, etc., emerge throughout the adolescent's processing and how they are framed by the different actors that make up the field of juvenile justice, both law operators and technical professionals of the system. From this investigation, it will be possible to evaluate the disputes that orbit the mental health and institutionalization of adolescents and the categories that are mobilized to classify a whole gradient of juvenile justice cases based on issues related to the psychiatric/psychological situation of young people.(AU)
