Abstract Damage possibly irreversible in the form of toxic or greenhouse emissions gases was caused to the environment due to the extensive use of nonrenewable fuels renewable. In order to mitigate the damage caused, fuels from alternatives energy sources prove valuable. Among them, biodiesel, coming from biomass, is a promising fuel once it can be synthesized from vegetable oils and it is very similar to diesel oil. However, due to its high cost of production and raw materials, their pure use in diesel engines is unfeasible. One way to reduce your cost is to adding value to the co-product of its synthesis, glycerol. Therefore, in order to enable the commercialization of residual glycerol from the synthesis of biodiesel, this study aims to: (I) synthesize, (II) analyze qualitatively and (III) quantitatively the glycerol produced, as well as (IV) purify the glycerol. The glycerol will be purified in 7 steps: (1) acidification of the reactional medium ; (2) salting-out of glycerol by the addition of ethanol; (3) separation of the different phases; (4) removal of impurities by adsorption with activated carbon; (5) centrifuge to separation of solids and immiscible liquids; (6) filtration and (7) distillation. Additionally it will be made an estimate of the costs of glycerol purification and a preliminary analysis of the life of glycerol obtained by petrochemical, chemical and enzymatic ways. This work will be developed within the scope of the doctoral work entitled "Development and optimization of microreactors for biodiesel production by enzymatic transesterification and simulation in computational fluid dynamics software" started on 05/10/2021 in the Program of Chemical-Pharmaceutical Technology at FCF/USP, with a CAPES scholarship. | |
