Maternal and perinatal outcomes associated with the presence of ventricular hypertrophy in pregnant women with chronic arterial hypertension

Abstract

Background: Ventricular hypertrophy is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic arterial hypertension, however, there are few dates for the outcomes in pregnant women with chronic arterial hypertension.Objective: To assess whether the ventricular hypertrophy in pregnant women with chronic arterial hypertension may be associated with adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes.Method: This is a retrospective cohort study of pregnant women with chronic arterial hypertension who were delivery in a state public maternity hospital, over a period of 10 years. All pregnant women underwent echocardiography before the 20th week of pregnancy. Hypertrophy will be defined using the American Society of Echocardiography criteria. Maternal and perinatal outcomes will be analyzed according to the presence or absence of left ventricular hypertrophy. The results will be statistically analyzed for comparison between groups and will be considered a minimum significance limit of 95% (p<0.05).Results: It is expected that the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy in chronic hypertensive pregnant women may be associated with unfavorable maternal and perinatal outcomes. The results obtained may contribute to better predict maternal and perinatal outcomes in this group of women.
