Abstract

Flow-induced vibration (FIV) is a phenomenon that poses several problems to naval and oceanic systems. Therefore, there is a huge interest in mitigating the effects of FIV. In this context, this scientific initiation project aims to review the current literature on how to mitigate FIV and to design a new suppressor via topology optimization (TO).This project is part of a Young Investigators Project on TO for offshore structures andshall build upon codes developed by the team. The simulation of the FIV phenomenonwill be based on the finite element method. The optimization formulation will bedeveloped based for lift, drag and volume functions. The optimized design will be test ina transient numerical analysis.
