Abstract

This scientific initiation project aims to study the behavior of magnetoelectric coupling in samples of multiferroic composites at high frequencies. In these materials magnetoelectricity, this effect arises due to the mechanical coupling between the two phases: the magnetostrictive deformation of the ferromagnetic phase causes stress on the ferroelectric phase, changing its polarization state. Thus, it is expected that high values for the magnetoelectric coefficient are observed when the excitation frequency of the AC magnetic field is the same as the electromechanical resonance frequency (EMR) of these composites. In particular, the study will focus on samples sintered with the ferroelectric KxN(1-x)NbO3 (KNN), which has as its main characteristic a lead-free ferroelectric. For the ferromagnetic phase, Barium hexaferrite, BaFe12O19 will be used. This study will be done through magnetoelectricity measurements at high frequencies, close to the EMR, and applying a biased DC magnetic field. Thus, a better understanding of the magnetoelectric effect is expected in this frequency range and, therefore, enables the use of these materials in electronic devices.(AU)
