Abstract

Brazil follows, as every developing country, a growth trajectory in the production-consumption chain, which brings, among other consequences, an increase in energy demand and an increase in waste generation. Associating the treatment of these discarded materials with energy generation is a reality already practiced in other countries, and there are already several technologies for the implementation of this solution. The energy recovery potential of solid waste depends, in addition to its physical and chemical properties, on the model adopted for its integrated management and on the technologies applied for its energy recovery. In order to continue the studies initiated in the projects carried out in the municipalities of Santo Andre (2015-2016) and Itaquaquecetuba (2018), this work will carry out, within a broad and interdisciplinary project, the survey and analysis of technologies for the integrated management of Municipal Solid Waste (RSU) involving their energy recovery, and the fundamental parameters for their evaluation. In addition, the objective of the work will also be to evaluate integrated waste management scenarios to indicate, according to the fundamental properties determined for the fuel categories, the best treatment route with energy recovery. As a result of this research, it is expected to present the definition of parameters that interfere in the potential for energy recovery of solid waste based on data from the municipalities of Santo Andre and Itaquaquecetuba. The data produced in this work will be used by other members of the project to develop the computational tool to evaluate the potential for energy recovery of solid waste from the different configurations of the integrated management systems.
