Abstract

The installation of a logistics center called Campo Grande (Porto Seco) in Santo André - SP, in an area of Atlantic Forest in the district of Paranapiacaba is the motivation behind the present study. The objective of this work is to contribute to the discussion of the potential impacts of the project with a focus on the climatic conditions of the region and its relationship with the other areas of the municipality. The temperature of the environment is a central aspect for the quality of life of the population and the balance of any biome, and is the result of a complex process in which the surface characteristics are fundamental. Therefore, changes in land use projected in the context of the project will certainly have implications for surface and air temperature, with the potential to disturb the climate scenario both in the areas of direct influence and in those indirectly affected. Considering as a reference the concept of Climatopos, a method of building climate maps based on land use data, geographic aspects and its potential for thermal load, the present project aims to develop a current analytical climate map of the municipality of Santo André, in which we call the pre-installation phase of the enterprise. From the map developed, and considering the expected changes in land use due to the project, it is our intended to project changes in the climate of the region from the point of view of the potential for thermal load and the distribution of Climatopos, and also to analyze and discuss the implications of these changes for the municipality and neighboring areas. It is worth mentioning that the portion where the project is intended to be implemented is the region of the municipality of Santo André with the greatest vegetation cover. Therefore, there is a risk of losing the moderating role of this region to the local thermal condition and its surroundings.
