Abstract

Cold exposure unlocks several adaptive metabolic events that allows for an optimal adaptive thermogenesis as way to defend body core temperature. Brown fat is the major organ orchestrating this adaption, and it utilizes circulating glucose and triglycerides as fuels to metabolize and sustains the heat production. Several oxidized lipids are active in this process, supporting brown fat in the optimization of fuel uptake and metabolism, thereby allowing for an optimal microenvironment that is adequate for thermogenesis. In this context, we identified oxidized lipids that are essential for these processes, and we aim in this project to investigate more in depth how they contribute to the thermogenic process.
