Abstract

The Shoulder Endurance Test (SET) is a functional test that assesses the resistance to fatigue of the internal and external rotator muscles of the shoulder. The Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test (CKCUEST) is a functional test that tests the strength and power of the upper limb in a closed kinetic chain, assessing its functional ability. These physical performance tests are useful tools that are easy to use in clinical environments with limited infrastructure. In this cross-sectional observational study, performance values in the Shoulder Endurance Test (SET) and Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test (CKCUEST) will be collected from non-athlete male individuals, as well as strength, power, and muscular endurance values of external and internal rotators of the shoulder with the isokinetic dynamometer. Pearson's correlation coefficient will be used to test the correlations of performance in the SET, firstly with the measures of strength, power, and muscular resistance in the isokinetic dynamometer, and later with the value of power normalized by the weight of the upper extremity of the body corresponding to the performance in the CKCUEST. This way, we seek to validate the ability of SET to correlate with various constructs such as strength, power and muscular endurance, establishing this instrument as reliable measure in clinical contexts where a gold standard measure, such as the isokinetic dynamometer, is not accessible.
