Abstract

The fraternal complex consists, succinctly, in the psychic organization of a subject facing another that he recognizes as a brother or sister, involving a complex dynamic of identifications, relational positions, etc. Understanding that this complex plays a structuring role in the psychic organization, this research, of a qualitative nature, aims to bring a greater understanding of how the figure of the older brothers can act in the formation of the younger brother's subjectivity. It will be carried out through the free association narrative interview method with two participants - one who reports admiration, identification or love in the relationship with the sibling, and another who reports rivalry, irritation or similar. The analysis will focus on: the position and formation of the ego (identifications and oppositions); the ego ideal; and the influence of the figure of the brothers in the object choices. Alongside this, we will also seek to understand the general family context and how it is associated with relationships between siblings.
