Abstract

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are characterized by a chronic and exacerbated inflammatory process of the gastrointestinal tract that occurs due to an idiopathic disorder, with the two main clinical forms being Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (RCU), differing in the location and involvement of the intestinal mucosa layers. The pathophysiology of IBD is not yet fully understood, but it is known that it involves triggering of hyperactivation of effector immune cells in conjunction with inflammatory mediators that trigger the condition. CD exhibits patterns of leaking lesions, which may present in an inflammatory, fistulizing, and fibro-stenosing form. CD triggers several symptoms, with iron deficiency anemia being the most frequent systemic complication, causing several negative impacts on the quality of life of affected patients. The treatment of anemia has obtained satisfactory results through the intravenous application of iron, compared to oral administration. Ferric carboximaltose (Ferinject®) is safe and effective for the treatment of patients with iron deficiency anemia, with CD. Thus, the objective will be to conduct a retrospective study by analyzing the medical records of patients with CD who used this medication during follow-up at the IBD outpatient clinic at Gastrocentro - Unicamp, assessing hematimetric parameters before and after treatment, in addition to collecting epidemiological data and information on the characteristics of CD in these patients.
