Abstract

Information visualization strategies have been developed and applied to optimize the analysis of data of different types and from different domains. In many situations in the real world, visual metaphors represent elements of a domain (for example, people) and their interactions (for example, medical consultations, friendships, or scientific collaborations). Given these characteristics, they can be modeled using networks, leading to the possibility of employing statistical measurements and specific visualization techniques. It takes a lot of effort to help domain specialists in this endeavor (physicians, for example) in their decision-making processes. It is important to highlight that existing network visualization techniques have significant limitations, especially when dealing with the evolution of a network over time and with the incorporation of semantic information extracted from the domain, such as a medical record. The objective of this project is to develop network visualization strategies that optimize the analysis of temporal and semantic networks applied to medical and technical-scientific data. It is also important that the decision made by the specialist will be better based and more trustworthy as well as provided in a timely manner. (AU)
