Vocal, hearing symptoms and self-evatuation of voice and hearing in voice actors

Abstract

Introduction: The category of professional voice users is composed of several professionals, including voice actors. This group shows more vocal cord dysfunction due to the duration and intensity of their vocal use. In Brazil, voice actors are professional actors that specialize after a vocational course. Extreme vocal sounds are required from this population, which can be harmful. Thus, it is expected to find vocal symptoms in the group analyzed in this study. Furthermore, hearing is important for the regulation of voice production. Therefore, subjects who have more hearing complaints tend to express more vocal complaints. Aim: To identify and to analyze vocal and hearing symptoms in voice actors. The specific goals are to identify and to analyze the self-evaluation of voice actors' voice and to correlate vocal and hearing symptoms with the self-evaluation. Material and methods: this study has a quantitative and cross-sectional, prospective approach. Closed questionnaires available online will be applied to identify vocal conditions in fifty voice actors: Condição de Produção Vocal do Ator (CPV-A), Índice de Triagem para Distúrbio de Voz (ITDV) and Self-reported hearing loss in adults. The descriptive and inferential statistical analysis of the results will consider the answers given by the subjects to the domains of the CPV-A, ITDV and Self-reported hearing loss questionnaires.
