Abstract

The objective of this in vitro study will be to evaluate the properties of dental enamel subjected to the action of mouthwashes with different active principles during tooth bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide. Cylindrical samples will be obtained from bovine teeth and will be randomized into 4 groups according to the mouthwash to be used (n=12): Distilled Water (Control), Listerine Cool Mint Zero Alcohol, Listerine Cool Mint and Listerine Whitening Extreme. Samples will be bleached with 10% carbamide peroxide for 4 hours for 14 days. Concomitant to tooth bleaching, 2 applications of mouthwash will be carried out per day, one application performed before and one application performed after the application of the bleaching gel. Color analyzes will be performed by reflectance spectroscopy (”L, ”a, ”b, ”E*ab, ”E00), surface roughness (Ra) and surface microhardness (SMH) at baseline (T1) and after 14 days of bleaching and application of mouthwashes (T2). Representative scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images for each group will be obtained at the end for qualitative analysis of the enamel surface. Data will be subjected to appropriate statistical analysis considering a significance level of 5%.
