Abstract

With the technological advance of optical devices, display technology has become indispensable today, increasing the demand for high performance. In this context, micro-LEDs have been considered the next generation of this technology because of their low power consumption and wide color gamut, compared to the liquid crystal display (LCD) and OLEDs currently in use. In this technology, the red, green, and blue (RGB) pixels are obtained by using color filters, which decompose the white light generated by the combination of phosphors emitting these colors. Thus, phosphors doped with rare-earth ions (lanthanide group including scandium and yttrium), exhibit high potential to be applied in these devices to result in self-emissive displays (which do not require a backlight). In general, luminescent materials based in inorganic lattices such as oxides, are produced by doping with rare-earth ions that tend to replace cations with similar characteristics in these host lattices. Therefore, in this work, we aim to investigate the structural, morphological, and spectroscopic properties of SrY2O4 co-doped with Ce3+ and Eu3+ or Tb3+ synthesized via the modified Pechini method. Unlike what is found in the literature, the polymerizing agent Sorbitol will be used, which enhances the photoluminescent properties of the material. The proposed phosphors, after their characterization and modulation of the structural and optical properties, will then be used in the fabrication via the drop-casting technique of light-emitting nanostructured films based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) polymer applicable in the construction of the emitting layer of micro-LEDs to obtain RGB pixels by the use of a color filter.
