Abstract

The availability of open data - both those originating from scientific research and open government data - will be critical to the projects, policies and initiatives needed to achieve environmental sustainability. The literature points to the fact that, despite government institutions providing open data, the demand for such data is still relatively low. In view of the above, the present proposal aims to identify the degree of findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability - that is, to apply the "FAIR" criteria, usually applied exclusively to scientific data - of open data sets that would have the potential to be used in initiatives aimed at contributing to sustainable environmental development.
