Abstract

Technological developments, which Electric Power Systems (EPS) have been going through since the beginning of this century, have led to an increase in the quantity and quality of real-time data available to the system's operator. In this sense, it is vital to rethink the formulation of the traditional State Estimator (SE) to take greater advantage of this scenario. Another factor that incentives reformulating this application is the more complex behavior of the networks, driven by the inclusion of distributed energy resources, making it imperative to monitor the state of a EPS more precisely. Moreover, there are new types of equipment based on power electronics that are present in modern networks, and how to model them, within the state estimation process, is still a great challenge.Although there are works in the literature addressing these issues, most deal with them separately, without providing an airtight solution, in view of the final purposes of the state estimation process. This research project proposes the development of a SE able to deal with the actual conjecture of the EPS, managing to adequately represent the behavior of current electrical networks, and consequently providing better accuracy for the state estimation process. For that, this work will employ technics of Bayesian inference, modeling power electronic devices for Power Systems Analysis, nonlinear programming, and parallel computing.It is essential to point out that this project aims to give continuity to the research already developed at the Laboratory of Computational Analysis in EPS of the São Carlos School of Engineering at the University of São Paulo.
