Abstract

Bignoniaceae Juss. one family of Lamiales with 120 genera and about 650 species of trees, lianas or shrubs distributed in tropical and subtropical areas. The family has seven tribes, of which Bignonieae is considered the largest tribe in number of species and with ecologically important species. Fridericia is considered the most complex genus of the tribe and has recently had its taxonomy and systematics revised with the synonymization of some species and the inclusion of new species. The present study aims at the morphological characterization of 27 species of Bignonieae, based on the species of Fridericia and also species of related genera (Cuspidaria, Lundia, Tanaecium, Tynanthus and Xylophragma). Thus, the objective of the study is to describe the pollen morphology of Bignonieae species native to the state of São Paulo, providing data for the taxonomy and plant systematics of this group. For this, materials from herbaria will be used. The pollen grains will be acetolyzed, measured, described and photomicrographed under light and scanning electron microscopy, when necessary. The quantitative data obtained will be analyzed by statistics for the size of the samples; and qualitative data will be organized to describe pollen types. The results aim to characterize genera, groups of species or species, contributing to the understanding of the systematics of the group.
