Abstract

The richness of enzymatic activities that can act on plant biomass reflects in a high number of metabolitederivatives that may have diverse biotechnological uses, which have the scientific community's interest in the socalled green chemistry and biomass biorefinery for obtaining products of high commercial value. This potential canbe exploited to obtain sugars rare such as tagatose and psychosis, known for their sweetening andpharmacological characteristics, while which are scarce in nature and have complex and costly chemicalsyntheses. Recently, the sequencing of a bacterial consortium of a sugarcane bagasse pile allowed the isolation ofa partial genome identified as belonging to the genus Chitinophaga sp. (CB10), whose Functional annotation ledto the prediction of 456 ORFs related to lignocellulosic biomass processing. Other projects also allowed thecreation of a database with several carbohydrases from different genomes and metagenomes in the LBMP. Fromthis perspective, and considering the importance biotechnology of these genes for bioenergy and biofactoryplatforms, this project foresees the use of enzymes from the LBMP database for the biorefinery of rare sugarsfrom biomass
