Abstract This project proposes to understand the use of the ballad form of Manuel Bandeira in the construction of modernist poems. The ballad is a traditional poetic form, which emerged in the Middle Ages and was adopted in different historical periods. Considering that Modernism promoted a break with classical poetic forms, Bandeira's insistence on traditional forms reinforces the innovation proposed by the movement, thus, what could be considered a return to the past, in poetry, becomes subversion. From this approach, it will also be possible to understand the different trends within Modernism, and what this multiplicity reveals about this movement in Brazil. The corpus of this research is composed of five poems, which will be analyzed in the light of theories about the ballad form, about the poet and about Modernism. | |
