Abstract

This research project aims to make a study of the nymph presence in certain authors of brazilian modern and contemporary poetry. Object of reflection made by philosophers and critics such as Giorgio Agamben, Roberto Calasso, Georges Didi-Huberman and Aby Warburg, the image of the nymph, which, throughout history, has maintained a close relationship with the artistic representations in general, reappears in modern times with a sense of survival, or even resistance, quite specific. In the context of brazilian literature, the nymph appears more significantly in the period called "pre-modern" and continues to appear, acquiring new forms and own functions in authors like Bandeira and Drummond, also coming to contemporary poetry. By understanding the nymph as the "survivor image" par excellence (Warburg, 2012; Didi-Huberman, 2007) and especially an "image of the image" (Agamben, 2012), this research seeks to think how this mythical figure deranged the usual narrative in the history of modern brazilian literature, allowing us to see unsuspected links between the modern and contemporary times, on one side, and earlier times, especially, perhaps, that period has become known, for lack of a better name, such as "pre-modern" . In other words, there, where literary historians marked by modernism speech see (or expect to see) especially breaks (between the literary culture of the nineteenth and the twentieth century), we can see reappearances, intermittent continuities, time links.
