Abstract

Replications are essential for maintaining methodological rigor and scientific development, however, they have been little encouraged and scarce. "Open science" practices have contributed to an increase in reproducibility rates and have shown to be important in behavioral studies, although evidence suggests that much of the mental health area has not yet been updated according to these practices. The replication of classical studies aims to meet this demand, achieving heterogeneity, larger sample sizes, and expanding theoretical construction with the use of extensions. The seminal study by Fischhoff (1975) on hindsight bias is highly relevant and has evidence of interactions with depressive symptoms, but few studies have explored such interaction and there are no replications in a Brazilian sample. OBJECTIVES: To conduct a replication of the hindsight bias in a Brazilian sample, including an extension to the original research to broaden its scope of clinical relevance in depressive symptoms. METHOD: This will be a cross-sectional study conducted through a self-administered electronic form on the Qualtrics XM platform in a sample of 500 Brazilians over 18 years of age. Experiment 2 of the Fischhoff study (1975) will be replicated, adapted to our population through a process of cultural adaptation. This study's extension will be the evaluation of depressive symptoms, conducted through the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Bank v1.0 (PT-BR version). Following the guidelines for Promotion of Transparency and Openness (TOP Guidelines), the study will be pre-registered on the Open Science Framework (OSF) platform and the Data Management Plan Tool (DMP Tool) will be used for data management. Statistical analyzes (between groups comparison and mediation analysis) will be performed using the R software (version 4.1.2).
