Abstract

Gravitational mass movements are natural phenomena that perform relief modeling, in some cases, their occurrence can be considered a disaster, if it affects a certain community from a severe negative impact, such as the overturning of blocks that occurred in Capitólio, Brazil on January 8, 2022. Thus, the hazard corresponds to the possibility of a potentially harmful natural process or phenomenon occurring in a certain place and in a period of time. In consideration of this, the present project aims to evaluate and map the geological hazards in the canyon area in the Furnas dam, Capitólio - MG, defining and characterizing the typology of the processes involved in the gravitational mass movements such as falling, tipping and rolling of blocks and the formulation of a hazard letter. The research will be developed in five stages: 1st stage - Bibliographic survey; 2nd stage - Organization of the database and integration of the cartographic base; 3rd stage - Office analysis with the identification of topographic conditions that lead to falling blocks; 4th stage - Field work; and 5th stage - Preparation of the hazard letter and the final report. The development of this research will enable the characterization of the study area with the identification, assessment and mapping of hazards related to gravitational mass movements, and it will be possible to contribute to the formulation of solutions for the control of the area, avoiding future disasters.
